VA Tech Game Watch, NPA Tutoring & Turkeys, USC Buses

Hello San Diego Notre Dame Family:

Here are the events coming up soon…

Virginia Tech Game Watch
Saturday, November 19th, 12:30 pm (Pacific Time)
Ok, so it’s Senior Day and unlike what everyone thought heading into the season, the Irish are fighting to build their record back up to .500. Looking at my favorite cfbstats.com site, there really aren’t any areas where one team particularly excels vs. the other. This is also the first time ND has faced Virginia Tech, so history isn’t a guide, and the game line is basically even, so the experts have no idea how this is going to end. So here’s the thing … if we execute reasonably well all three phases of the game (offense, defense & special teams), we will beat the Hokies, and close out the home football season on a high note. Join us at one of our two game watches to witness it, and root on the Irish. You don’t need to be a club member, ND grad or even San Diego resident to join us, you just need to love ND football. ** Important Note: Prospect Bar has changed its name to Rooftop La Jolla, but the address is the same. Here’s how to find us: Rooftop La Jolla (formerly Prospect Bar & Grill) – Downtown La Jolla • East Village Tavern + Bowl – Downtown San Diego

Please contact Club VP and Community Service Coordinator, Martin Holguin (community@ndsandiego.org), or Maria Centanni directly at the school via amigos@nativityprep.org or 619-544-9455 x229 for both tutoring and mentoring. Army Game Watch, Nativity Prep, NDP Happy Hour, USC Buses

Hello San Diego Notre Dame Family:

It’s going to be a busy 2nd half of November, so I’ll get right to the posts …

Army (Shamrock Series) Game Watch
Saturday, November 12th, 12:30 pm (Pacific Time)
Ok, let’s be honest. It’s hard to be confident about any of the matchups left this season. Normally, the Army game would be one where you’d be watching the second half out of the corner of your eye while you multitask on socializing with fellow Irish fans. The last time Army beat the Irish was in 1958, and we lead the series 38-8-4, having won the last 14. This season though… Army comes into this game 5-4, boasting the #2 rushing offense in the country (359 yards / game) and the #13 scoring defense (18.1 PPG). Sure, they have weaknesses, they’re dead last (#128 in passing offense) and they’re tied for #118 with a 50-50 field goal record. Still, the Irish are 14 point favorites from a betting line perspective, and we’re nearly tied for scoring offense (ND is #59/29.9 PPG and Army is #61/29.3 PPG), so this thing might actually be a game that will come down to the 4th quarter. Its going to be an amazing weather weekend in San Diego, so come enjoy your early afternoon with fellow Irish fans, have some lunch and a beverage (or two) and then enjoy the warm evening weather savoring (hopefully) Irish victory #4.

Navy Game Watch (La Jolla Only), Nativity Prep, USC Buses

Hello San Diego Notre Dame Family:

November arrived quickly didn’t it? This next-to-last month of the year always brings a bevy of great club activities, and this November is no exception. We’ll finish the month with our bi-annual So. Cal matchup against the Trojans, but before we get there (…and your club can literally get you there via our buses to the game, see below), we’ll have a couple of great community service projects, and 2/3 of the football matchups needed to take the Commander in Chief’s trophy. Although I’m not posting the Halloween Candy Collection list again due to length, you can check out Monday’s post if you think you can help with pickup or bagging. For the rest, read below for details…

Navy Game Watch (Rooftop La Jolla Only, no EVT)
Saturday, November 5th, 8:30 am (Pacific Time)
The annual Navy matchup has to be one of the games that makes you nervous every year, and this year there’s reason even beyond the normal concern. Navy (5-2) has some legitimate victories on their resume this year, headlined by a 46-40 win over #6 Houston. They are #5 in the country for rushing offense and for 3rd down conversions. They are, however, #120 for passing offense and tackles for loss, and #103 in stopping opponents’ red zone conversions, so they’re rather one-dimensional offensively and don’t have a stellar defense. So, expect a shootout, and hope that our defense continues their recent progress. If we can stop the Middies, we have a pretty good shot at adding another victory in our quest for 0.500. This is an early game, and given the unusual hour, we’ll only have one location to join your local ND family to watch the game. No excuses, you’ll get an extra hour of sleep Saturday night due to the time change, so set your alarm and join us in La Jolla! Here’s how to find us: Rooftop La Jolla (formerly Prospect Bar & Grill) – Downtown La Jolla
