YA Paintball, Senior Alumni Luncheon & Crew Classic

Hello San Diego Notre Dame Family:
What a great weekend for Irish sports! Saturday, our Men’s Lacrosse team knocked off #1 Maryland 5-4, the Softball team went 4-0 in a Florida tournament, Irish Women’s LAX won their 7th straight game, and Sunday our awesome Women’s Basketball Team beat Duke for their 4th ACC Title. Stay tuned this week as the Irish Men’s Basketball team starts their ACC Tournament bid on Thursday at 6pm Pacific (TV: ESPN). They’re a 3 seed, so we won’t know their opponent until after the Wednesday games conclude. Go Irish! Here’s what’s coming up locally this month:

Reports are it has the same feel as regular but without the intensity . . . or bruises.

Details: NEW BASE ACCESS: **IMPORTANT** There are new base access procedures to come on to Camp Pendleton to play Paintball. Anyone with a driver’s license (driver or passenger) needs to add themselves to the Paintball Park Visitor’s List at least 7 days in advance of coming to the park. Each individual will need to bring their Driver’s License to show at the gate. Add yourself to the Visitor’s List here: www.ThePaintballPark.com/play

Directions: We are located right inside the back gate of Camp Pendleton and it’s super easy to find us. However since we are located on a military base if you try to use your GPS, or phone navigation sometimes it takes you to the wrong area on base, so it’s best to follow these directions https://thepaintballpark.com/directions-2/

What to Wear: We recommend that players wear long sleeves, and long pants, as well as closed-toes shoes. Paintballs do wash out of clothing, however don’t wear your “Sunday Best” you will get dirty!

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter was developed to meet the multirole fighter requirements of the US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and our allies. The Air Force variant is a supersonic, single engine stealth fighter. The Navy variant has a larger wing and more robust structure in order to operate from aircraft carriers, while the Marine Corps variant incorporates an innovative propulsion system that can be switched from a turbofan cycle to a turbo shaft cycle for vertical takeoff and landing. This propulsion system enabled the X-35 to become the first aircraft in history to fly at supersonic speeds, hover, and land vertically. The development team won the Collier Trophy, which recognizes “the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America” that year, for this accomplishment. This presentation will describe the technical and program challenges involved in developing the Joint Strike Fighter and show how an innovative idea became an international program with engineers from half a dozen countries developing a single replacement aircraft for multiple aircraft types.

2017 Crew Classic
April 1&2
Crew Classic Website Link — Event held at Mission Bay, Crown Point Shores Park

The alumni out in San Diego are always extremely generous to the team when we travel out there for the Crew Classic. They provide us with great food at the course as well as multiple dinners throughout the weekend. Their generosity saves the team a substantial amount of money and trouble and we cannot thank them enough
– Matt DiDonato (current crew team member)

Each year the Men’s Rowing Club travels out to San Diego on their own dime (due to being a club sport) and competes with some of the best crew teams out there at the San Diego Crew Classic – this year April 1-2 – at Crown Point (Mission Bay). The ND Club of San Diego hosts a tent (to provide our visiting Irish Crew Teams with a place to rest, fuel up, and socialize with the local Irish family)at the regatta which yearly increases in price due to the popularity of the event. Also the local ND Club of San Diego supports the men with snacks throughout the day to replenish electrolytes and carbs, as well as lunch and dinner. Can you help the local club with your financial support to cover these costs? The men who travel out here are tremendously grateful for the support of our local alums and we hope to continue to offer them the excellent hospitality and support this year and beyond.

As the cost of providing this home-away from home has reached epic proportions, this year we’re asking for sponsorship help in funding the event. Here are some ideas for how you can help, but you’re welcome to “make your own sponsorship” as well.

  • “hydration sponsorship” – $50 [provide Gatorade/water for the team for the weekend]
  • “tent pole sponsorship” (10 poles available at $100 per pole)
  • “feed the crew” sponsorship for $200 [snacks for the two days, dinner for the team Saturday night, BBQ lunch for the team on Sunday]
  • “cover the tent” at $1120 [provide a shady place for the team to gather in between events]
  • “be part of the team” — any amount is appreciated!

Please let Karen (ND’02) know of any help you can offer: crewclassic@ndsandiego.org

GO IRISH!
